vismodegib has failed a CRC trial, and that historically regimens that have been shown to improve response rates haven't necessarily demonstrated improved survival.
Entirely different class of cancer, and entirely different thesis on how to attack the disease.
The pancreatic study thesis is on cracking the shell (stroma) of the tumor allowing chemo-drugs to efficiently get "into" the tumor, instead of being "pushed out" (which is what seems to be happening with current therapies). The Hh, in theory, is supposed to not only weaken the shell, but also kill the stem cells that allow the tumor cells to rehabilitate.
To my knowledge, the CRC trial and the CRC itself, was never intended to do this.
