Since SA said that the goal for 2011 is for a monochrome prototype for this year, I believe him. It will be a proof of concept device since it will no longer be a lab created device. By now we have all seen the original monochrome pictures. As far as I know, it was a static or near static system. The total volume of data that will be required to support the monochrome display could be lets say 1k width * 1k length * 1k height = 1 billion voxles(sp?) for a static display. Increase that to 60 times a sec. and the data is now 60 billion per second. That is in the giga hertz frequency range. It is possible but very complex. The only real solution is to break the data path into parallel processes to keep the problem manageable. I look forward to seeing how they solve these big problems. Notice also, this is only for monochrome!
