Most psychiatrists now have very limited interaction with patients and are only willing to prescribe anti-depressants.

I am hypo-thyroid which predisposes one to depression. Over the years I have tried every anti-depressant that has come along. In a matter of weeks each of these has caused me to have horrible nightmares. I refused to continue these drugs because if I couldn't sleep what good is the drug? Now I refuse to take any anti depressant.

I also had a serious encounter with police which left me with PTSD. I also had an anoxic episode which likely left me with some neurological impairment. I saw several psychiatrists, each of them was only willing to treat me for depression with drugs I could not tolerate. They refused to treat me outside of predetermined parameters that did not related to my personal situation.

It took me four years to find a psychiatrist with the proper neurological background to prescribe something that would help.
