I've read his e-mails over and over looking for any little written clue. I like that he used the word "finalizing our relationship"... that tells me that they are going to partner in some way. I don't think he would have put it that way, were this going to just end. Also "it will not look exactly like the acquision laid out in the PR" seems to suggest this same thing.
I think those two things would be poor choices of words were this thing just ending.
