Interesting and timely read. I use thinkorswim as my online brokerage. Just this evening, I received an email from TDAmeritrade, the parent of tos, to bring me up to date on the final steps of the integration of tos and TDA. One of the things mentioned was moving from Penson to TD Ameritrade Clearing, Inc., for clearing purposes.
From the article:

...or setting up their own clearing in-house.

Looks like TDA did just that!!

There was nothing in the email about not being able to trade sub-dime equities.
