From what I could find it looks like that machine came with 512 KB RAM. Since you are saying it has 298 KB RAM it seems like there is a problem with one of your RAM modules and that would definitely explain slow performance.

Memory is pretty cheap these days so you could replace your RAM modules and see some performance improvements but you may not want to invest money in a machine that old. Gives you something to think about though.

"Sort of" is harmless "Sort of". Is a filler. But sometimes, "sort of" means everything. Like after "I love you" or "You're going to live" or "It's a boy".
