In March 2011, GEI announced that: (i) a wholly-owned subsidiary of GEI entered into a production sharing contract with the Government of Chad pursuant to which GEI secured the Chari-Ouest (Borogop) and Chari-Doseo concession in Southern Chad in the Doseo and Eastern Doba basin that also has, in the opinion of management, the potential to contain resources and commercially viable undeveloped oil reserves and covers approximately 20,000 km2; and (ii) GEI had completed a $165 million private placement of common shares through a syndicate of agents led by Canaccord Genuity Corp. and which included GMP Securities L.P. and Salman Partners Inc.
