Considered by many to have been a Great Empire. Europe was preoccupied by the colonies and shipping and had no real interest in the Middle East. Didn't need to go that way and didn't need oil. When things were bad in Spain large numbers of dare I say Jews were welcomed there. When things were bad in Russia large numbers of dare I say Jews were welcomed there. Count up all the Jews that were sent from Iraq to Palestine, that was not done under the Ottomans.
You can argue what you want but no one in the Middle East ever treated the Jews as badly as the Europeans, the Christians.
