"... lot of musician's careers are ruined by ego."
Many ways to view this as true, false and misleading.
true,
If a persons' ego is viewed as a person's personality
that contains an unwillingness to accept criticism,
and the more one receives acclaim from others,
the more one is fearful of losing that acknowledge
and fights against this to the point that they include
anothers' helpful attempts as criticism.
false,
A person with a strong open clear ego will recognize
that whatever success they obtain must not depend
on a decision of others that self appoint themselves
as the judge of what is success, but need only view
the past hstory of what they feel were greatness,
and this person decides to obtain a similiar end,
the end being the end product, as in the music.
This stand requires one to see a "musician's career"
based on their solo part to add by self or with others
to create an image of what they know as good music,
and not something made by marketing & sales people
to generate the most money and obtain the largest
audience which sometimes consist of many people
wanting the music because other want it,
not because they like it for the music,
but to follow the crowd & belong to a group.
To do solo in spirit, even as one of a group where
the combination of everyone is the music,
one needs to fight against allowing others to step
onto your ego, as if it will prevent you from success,
where in truth all they want to do is control you themselves,
but first they need you to lose your self control a.k.a. your ego.
misleading,...
(oops) too much and your father Bob might not feel comfortable
of a reply having too much psychology attached.
I would disagree and state that the reason many grown-ups,
those at the iHub Jailhouse peanut gallery that have a distaste
for my postings there, would not be afraid of what i say if they
had an early education in the above type stuff :o)
