A new survey of Wisconsin from Public Policy Polling (D) finds that Rep. Paul Ryan (R), whose proposal to privatize Medicare has become the center of national controversy, is now viewed unfavorably by a plurality of voters back home in this perennial swing state.

The survey finds Ryan with a personal favorability rating of 41%, with 46% unfavorability. In a hypothetical presidential match-up, President Obama leads Ryan by a margin of 50%-43%. The survey of Wisconsin registered voters was conducted from May 19-22, and has a ±2.4% margin of error.

In the previous poll from three months ago Ryan's favorability was at 36%-35%, and six months ago it was at 38%-30%.

PPP's Tom Jensen writes: "Ryan's prudent not to run for the state's open [Senate] seat given his decline in popularity on the home front."

Other Republicans also trail Obama, by larger margin's than the home-state GOPer Ryan. obama leads Newt Gingrich by 53%-35%, leads Sarah Palin by 55%-36%, and leads Mitt Romney by 51%-39%.
