MR. MACACA STRIKES AGAIN....

Shortly after launching a comeback bid in Virginia, former Sen. George Allen (R) decided it was wise to re-litigate his use of a racial slur, "macaca," that contributed to Allen's defeat five years ago. Under the circumstances, one would expect the conservative politician to be a little more careful when it comes to race.

Ahem.

NBC 4's reporter-anchor Craig Melvin is a tall African-American. Which apparently led to this exchange with former Sen. George Allen, according to Melvin's Twitter account Tuesday night:

"For the 2nd time in 5 months, fmr. gov. and sen candidate George Allen asks me, "what position did you play?" I did not a play a sport."

Look, I know Allen's biggest flaws as a Senate candidate have to do with his far-right ideology and awful policy record, but after "macaca," the Republican doesn't exactly get the benefit of the doubt on racial issues.

In this case, five months ago, he meets a tall African-American journalist, and assumed the reporter was an athlete. This week, Allen met the same tall African-American journalist, and again assumed the reporter was an athlete.

It's reminiscent of a scene from "The Office":
