magilla, very bad form to disagree with one of the few folks who has ever agreed with anything that I have posted here, but gotta offer another view on the timing of Nokia's settlement window(Do please beg your pardon, and fully acknowledge both the value and the substance contained in your earlier post).

Also looked at the Nokia "events" calendar back when we got the news about ICC rulings coming down no later than May 31, 2005. Saw that Nokia's annual shareholder meeting was scheduled April 7th, and their Q1 earnings report is scheduled April 21st.

Seemed to make sense that the CEO calling the shots at Nokia would want to maintain his poker face through those public events(i.e., don't do anything that might cause sensitive questions to get asked),... and then to quietly sweep the InterDigital licensing matter under the carpet(i.e., like it was just "business as usual"), sometime between April 21st and mid-May.

I'm thinking the best "window of opportunity" for a Nokia settlement opportunity is after the Q1 report April 21st, and a few weeks before they expect to see a "Final Judgment Award" come out of the ICC.

These guys have been taking each other's measure on the matters at hand for several years now. IMO Nokia knows within a few tenths of a percent what InterDigital will accept on 3G rates and that they are not going to settle without a 3G license. I'm guessing that 2G payments are nothing more that bargaining chips in their game at this point.
