LONG BEACH, Calif.—The Coast Guard says cleanup operations are nearly complete after about 700 gallons of oil spilled into Long Beach Harbor when a ship's tank overflowed during a fueling operation. Lt. George Kolumbic says the spill occurred Monday at the Port of Long Beach when an internal transfer of oil aboard the Libyan-registered tanker Al Jalaa went awry. Several waterways were shut down until Tuesday evening while five boats were deployed to contain the mess. Kolumbic said Wednesday crews have retrieved about 95 percent of the spilled oil so far. The cause of the spill is being investigated by the Coast Guard, state wildlife officials and local port authorities.
