Dmiller:It certainly IS possible that NOK will announce a settlement with IDCC during their call Friday.

I opined that they should have done it when they announced bad earnings and bad forward guidance last week (or whenever it was). The reason being it is best to get all the bad news out at once, if you're gonna take a hit, you're gonna take a hit, better a big hit once than dying the death of a thousand small cuts (to mix a coupla metaphors recklessly).

Same thing with the call Friday. Why not say "We fd up in general, and btw we're wrapping up an outstanding issue with IDCC, here's our plan for the future." Even better if he were to announce "We fd up in general, btw we're wrapping up this issue with IDCC AND at the same time taking an equity interest in IDCC which will permit us to profit and offset some of the losses all or most of which we had in reserve anyway."

People are tuning in to hear NOKs plans to try and get their act together. Why not take this and spin it into that, a cooperative relationship win/win with IDCC is part of NOKs future."

By win/win I am referring to the NJ win/win settlement scenario.

jmspaesq...I responded to the specific part of his assumption that Nokia was waiting to announce a settlement as part of their Friday's addressing of their plans.

Of course all of those things matter for the obvious reasons but why on earth would Nokia be announcing a settlement during this time? The people (the street in this case)are not tuning in on Fri to Nokia's announcement to hear about a settlement. (outside of IDCC investors of course...lol)That is what I meant when I said that the street doesn't care. "Tough times don't last....tough people do"
