Has CMKM Diamonds Inc. been working secretly in an sting operation, that was headed by Robert Maheu and Associates? One that began in 2002 as part of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme?
Even before 9/11, the FBI and CIA knew that al Qaeda was funding terrorism by selling conflict (blood) diamonds in the U.S.
European and American intelligence sources have long known that Hezbollah has raised significant amounts of money in West Africa through the largely Shiite Muslim Lebanese communities in Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Togo. There are an estimated 120,000 Lebanese in West Africa, mostly involved in import-export businesses.
For at least 20 years, Hezbollah had also raised some cash through the sale of diamonds from Sierra Leone, intelligence sources said. Bah, they said, was long suspected of brokering diamond deals through buyers connected to Hezbollah, assisted by sympathetic Lebanese businessmen across the region.
After Sept. 11, U.S. officials began focusing more intently on the West African diamond network. Transcripts from court cases against al Qaeda members contained evidence that the network has people with expertise in the diamond business and who previously dabbled in the gemstone trade in Tanzania.
In December of 2000 the General Assembly of the United Nations passed a resolution calling for the creation of a scheme that would allow certification of diamonds that had not been sold in order to finance civil war. The KPCS was finally agreed upon by nations involved in the trade of diamond and diamond-mining and production companies, notably De Beers and the World Diamond Council, in November 2002.
In legal proceedings, CMKM Diamonds admitted that it had not filed a quarterly report since November 2002. Furthermore they proclaimed that they had not broken any law or done anything illegal.
The Kimberley Process official webpage offers this definition of “conflict diamonds”: Conflict diamonds, also known as “blood” diamonds, are rough diamonds used by rebel movements or their allies used to finance conflict aimed at undermining legitimate governments, as described in relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolutions.
On Dec. 9 2002.. Casavant Mining Kimberlite International issued this press release:
Casavant Mining Kimberlite International to Sponsor Representative Office in Antwerp, Belgium to Promote the Casavant Diamond Brand and to Support Worldwide Demand for Conflict Free Diamonds
Casavant Mining Kimberlite International Inc. (OTCBB:CMKI) announced today that it was sponsoring a representative office in Antwerp, Belgium which is often referred to as the "world's diamond capitol."
The office will promote the "Casavant" diamond brand and assist in the support of "conflict free" diamonds. As much as 15% of the $40 billion in diamonds sold in the U.S. annually are "conflict diamonds." These diamonds are mined and sold by rebel groups who use the profits to buy arms and to conduct terrorism against legal governments and citizenry.
Urban Casavant Chairman stated that "both the European Union and the U.S. governments are actively legislating against the sale of "conflict diamonds" which are sometimes referred to as "blood diamonds." Since the U.S. represents 65% of the world market for gem quality diamonds, the issue of "conflict diamonds" is something we cannot ignore. Our diamonds come from Canada and other conflict free diamond sources throughout the world.
Robert Maheu Joined the Board of Directors of CMKM Diamonds Inc on Jan 31, 2005
LAS VEGAS -- CMKM Diamonds Inc. (Pink Sheets: CMKX) is pleased to announce that Robert A. Maheu has joined the board of directors of the company. Maheu served as the co-chairman.
Whatever CMKM Diamonds Inc. has been up to, it doesn't appear that our goverment is against them.
Only time will tell.. I can't wait to read the final chapter..
