I believe you are correct. They acquired lots of OFDM patents from Flarion, which is a major component of LTE.

Prior to 1998 - 1999, QCOM is a small company, like IDCC. Their stock price has been languishing in a range from 20 to 40 for quite some times. I remember everyone was so excited about the truck tracking unit (Omnitract)!

Battling NOK brought back lots of bad memory in me.
