Had another thought about that MUOS contract. General Dynamics is one of the leaders in doing complex tech integration work for the U.S. Defense dept. They do not manufacture and sell commercial base stations or handsets.

OK, guessing that General Dynamics has a bunch of very smart engineers who evaluated and selected the best sub-contractors to do each portion of MUOS. They selected Ericsson to do the W-CDMA base station infrastructure work and InterDigital to do the W-CDMA modem(or air-interface radio stuff). That sure appears to indicate that InterDigital has the "goods" to do W-CDMA handsets(i.e., protocol stack software, asic platform designs, and radio resource management software), plus the engineering services to put it all together.

So why don't we see Motorola, Nokia, and the other wireless handset manufacturers buying those "best of class" goods from InterDigital?..... Big string attached maybe. Pay up for 2G IPR usage AND license for 3G IPR usage at our rates BEFORE we deliver any of our product "goodies". No problem for General Dynamics because they do not sell handsets. But the firms that bid on selling all those MUOS handsets better go through KOP and get their ticket punched if they want to see their prototypes pass muster!
