So what exactly, did star trek fans have as proof they get noodled?

well, I suppose that it is a theory, since no one has flown a space ship close enough to a black hole yet, or sent a probe, but ALL astrophysicists agree with the theory.

The gravitational forces are so great that even light can't escape the gravitational pull of a black hole. So if that's the case, it would rip your molecules apart if you get close enough.
