I attended one of my son-in-laws commencemnt where he received his Doctorate and his dissertation does not appear after doing a search at this site either.

Really? It's amazing how many people here claim to have friends or relatives whose dissertations don't appear in the UMI database. Yet mine does, and so do those of every Ph.D I know. That's because accredited U.S. universities require that copies be sent.

UConn, Monk's supposed alma mater, uses the UMI database; it also keeps copies of dissertations written by its own graduates:

You won't find anything for Jerry Williams there. Not "our" Jerry Williams, anyway.
