SGE: e.Digital had nothing to do with the "embedded digEplayer.
e.Digital had nothing to do with the "embedded" digeplayer. It was all between InFlight Canada, Air Canada and APS/Boyer. At the request of Air Canada, InFlight Canada created the in-seat prototype from a disassembled digeplayer as well as a prototype with a Thales Avionics device. It was Inflight Canada that displayed these prototyes at WAEA. It was announced in October that the Thales Avionics solution was selected.
According to one of the articles, it was "airworthiness testing" that APS needed to conduct. The FAA is probably not involved in that. However, that testing became irrelevant when Thales was selected.
I don't believe belive that APS/Wencor proceeded with that initiative on their own. It should be possible to contact Wencor to find out since no one seems to be able to get a straight answer from e.Digital.
As ususal, the PR regarding the installed digEplayer was extremely misleading. In fact, I'd call it outright false. e.Digital didn't "unveil" anything, Inflight Canada did in their both. There was not even a mention of Inflight Canada in the PR.
Essentially e.Digital claimed they did something that another company did. How dishonest is that?
e.Digital wants to keep the hope up for an embedded digeplayer to keep selling stock. IMO, it's a dead deal at this time and if Wencor ever pursues it, I'd expect them to use engineers and manufacturers qualified to work on aircraft components - certainly not e.Digital.

Excerpt from first article: At the direct request of an airline, Inflight Canada is working on an iCACHE solution for Bombardier types that could also be applied to Embraer aircraft. “We will be showing these designs at WAEA in Seattle later this month,” says Smallhorn.
