Greyhounds are naturally thin, so that wasn't necessarily a sign of age. I think most racers stop after three or four years, at the very most. But of course while they're in racing kennels they're on very controlled diets, and don't have much human contact.
And of course others just don't show any promise as racers, and are put out for adoption (or put down) as early as two years old.
