Glad to see you're a fan and get it...there's not many out there as there should. A Wizard A True Star is the album that hooked me...and nearly everything he did from '68-91 (with the exception of some Utopia efforts)...and then '04 with Liars. Prince idolized him in the 70s and, in my opinion, can't carry Todd's jockstrap in terms of overall talent, lyrics, production (like you said), and yes, soul/emotion. I discovered him only a couple years ago and wonder how I missed him for years - I'm 32. Just fortunate I did. Still awestruck at his talent and authenticity every time I listen. Captures the mood every time. I hope people someday tune into his genius.
