I can understand why there would be rumours... but why would you believe them?

How is Castro living that you would think he has need of money, let alone billions of dollars?

Doesn't something about the story sound a little ridiculous to you? Consider the source... and the concept of "projection".

It's not as if he's living the life of a Saudi prince... Hasn't been seen at his luxury chalet in the Alps. No string of race horces in Kentucky. No yacht anchored off Nice or any of that stuff.

I'm not saying I'm a fan... but Castro's an old man, who's chosen to live where he is and how he is; dedicated. How could "money" possibly motivate him. Again, consider the concept of "projection".
