Vanda and circadian clock

Interesting. It sounds like this drug works as a melatonin receptor agonist. Why not just use melatonin? I have tried it for jet lag and it seems effective anecdotally. All I can assume is that the Vanda drug is both patentable (melatonin is not) and perhaps more potent than melatonin.
