Actually, the twentieth century is the exemption, take for instance the 30 year war culminating in the treaty of Westphalia (1648), purely religious war (religion imposed on the vanquished by the conqueror), this war cost 30%, by some estimates, of all central Europe's population. That war had its root in the reformation movement. To quote Kissinger in his book "Does America need a Foreign policy", p-235 "Whether the various rulers opted for Catholic orthodoxy or Protestant reform, a century of war followed-a mixture of civil war, international conflict and religious crusade". I won't go further back into the crusades or even the Israeli/Arab conflict, which for some reason has turned from wars of liberation to religious conflicts. The Kabal of the Robertsoons, Falwells and Grahams surely does not help in that respect. But holly cow, that is politics on the wrong thread, well, let's call it "History". Boring day on "The Street".
