It's my understanding that the "space coast initiative" was what several tech companies in the region were calling it back then. There was little or no press or media coverage at the time. It wasn't until Congress cut the funding for the Space Shuttle program that it gained enough support to move forward at a rapid pace. The Space Florida program is the result.

Arguments about whether the "space coast initiative" existed only in Leinwand's mind seem kind of pointless at this time. The Space Florida program is real.
