Differences of Time, Blindness of religion
I wanted to start this out saying I agree and disagree with you, for I have great empathy for what you write. The deepwelled conservative in me longs to stand on that hill with you. The realist, the actualist, knows what fantasy that is, I can not but disagree. You, in essence, argue for a constant unchanging standard. Regrettably, depending on which one is chosen, that is something we have never had. Charlatans, mountebanks, agen-provocateurs, hippocrates, ethical frauds, and others have always shouted, screamed, demanded, legislated and de-legislated for things to be a particular way. Usually to their or their small groups benefit. More often then not sanctioned by their religious zeal.... Alan Greenspan in Congressional testimony, 'I did not believe the Markets could permit a Fraud'.
That has changed when the unalloyed masses have some times found a champion, the Roosevelts, Lincoln, Washington and others. Or got themselves into groups...unions, parties. To represent and fight for their interests.
Judges like Sontchi haven't 'sat back', they have by and large resolved disputes between interests represented before them. In our system it's not their job to be an advocate for interests that have no representation. Nothing is 'fair' about the chances we get. We have an opportunity to fight, to change, and to achieve that is pretty much all.
We have, most of us, either too soon forgotten, or never known, that until the unions demanded a change, a life's worth of work in a company was mostly valueless. What happened to your savings, before 1930, was your problem, or benefit, much more so than now. It has been the struggle of at least the last 80 years, if not 150 to change the go die on your own demand to an understanding of a social responsibility and value of the group.
It is almost imposable to get Republicans and other obtuse creatures to acknowledge the debt they owe to the one who discovered fire and that that debt is paid in real terms and $ every day, whether they recognize it or not.
