All I see is that Atom will support Windows, Meego, and Android, and will support software that runs on any of these OSs. NOT that they're helping you port across the platforms.

If they were announcing "tools" that let you easily port Windows apps to Linux, IT WOULD BE OBVIOUS. BIG. NEWS. I.e. not requiring reading-between-the-lines.

It WAS BIG NEWS. It was announced at IDF, and Rene James - the executive of the Intel software group that does compilers and tools - announces that Intel wants Atom to be "port-of-choice", and at the same time talks about "cross-device experiences".

Connecting the sentences together makes it obvious that Intel will use their software group to develop the tools to assist developers to port their software across devices to give the end-user an equivalent experience.

Simply announcing OS support WITHOUT software does not equate to a cross-device experience.

Again, I can't see how you can read the Intel announcement any other way. Authors of multiple articles and blogs got the message, and you're the only one trying to claim that the announcement is nothing more than a statement of OS support.

Below is what Intel said. There is no reading in between the lines. They are talking about *software* and *software choice* - not OS and OS choice without software. They are talking about consistency of *content* - not consistency of OS without any software. Here is what they said, and it's as plain as day to everyone but you.

Demonstrated cross-device experiences based on Intel's unique 'port of choice' software strategy including Windows*, MeeGo* and Google operating systems. Renee James, senior vice president and general manager of the Software and Services Group at Intel, joined Perlmutter onstage to discuss how software – and software choice – will help drive Intel's vision for the Intel® Atom™ processor and a cross-device experience. This provides consumers consistency and accessibility to their content on a choice of computers and PC-like devices.
