You're right - big winner in the end may just be Boras...of course, doesn't he usually take care of #1 first? And you're right about the cost of living. However, the NY Metro area offers professional ballplayers more than just their contract - there's opportunity for media deals, (commercials, etc.).
Why the METS would sign someone for 7yrs is beyond me - he'll be expensive to dump in year 4-5 if he's not working out as planned.
