With all due respect, I don't think anyone I know has ever paid taxes on a unrealized gain. Do you? If you don't close the position, you don't pay the taxes. The entire sale is fairly marginable. You could have certainly yanked out all the cash equity from 45 down to 3 bucks if you were short at 45. Tax free to boot, until you cover....CL
