Remember that Spreadtrum had their TD-SCDMA chips for sale and integrated into designs prior to even the initial agreement with IDCC. The SC8800 series chips have been around for quite a while and has been the subject of previous discussion on this board....and the catalyst for Jim confirming with Janet that the agreement was for WCDMA/HSPA and our release 6 stack (as we've licensed to others) and not TD-SCDMA. You should get the same response from the company if you want to confirm.

Spreadtrum also has had a line of 2G chips for sale.....IMO, adding IDCC's Slimchip technology (which btw was not TD-SCDMA but WCDMA) is the work item
From the agreement:
http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1287950/000119312508143817/dex411.htm
The background of this Agreement is as follows:
1. Spreadtrum is in the business of designing, manufacturing, selling and supplying chipsets and related reference designs and development tools for wireless communications equipment. Spreadtrum supplies these chipsets and related products to wireless communications equipment manufacturers. Spreadtrum has developed the second generation GSM/GPRS/EDGE and third generation TD-SCDMA/HSDPA communication technologies.
2. InterDigital has extensive experience in research, development and design of digital wireless telecommunications systems and components. Among its various wireless telecommunications technologies, InterDigital has developed second generation GSM/GPRS/EDGE (2G) and [***] communications technology that is compliant with [***].
3. Spreadtrum wants to use and incorporate InterDigital’s technology in its chipsets for Terminal Units. Spreadtrum and InterDigital want to form a cooperative relationship under which InterDigital will license and transfer certain [***]-related technology to Spreadtrum, and will provide Spreadtrum with certain integration, testing and other engineering support required to assist Spreadtrum in implementing InterDigital’s technology in Spreadtrum’s products, under the terms and conditions of this Agreement.
So... If Spreadtrum releases a TD-SCDMA chip that ALSO has WCDMA in it....then it will be royalty bearing. I mentioned that in my previous post

In regard to Spreadtrum's license with IDCC and TDSCDMA. Here is a pertinent post by Jim on the premium board. It appears that if the TDSCDMA chip is dual mode chip with WCDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA also inside we should be getting something.

I asked Janet Point if SPRD was licensed for TDSCDMA and this was her response.
"In 2008 we licensed our mobile Broadband Modem IP high-performance WCDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA baseband designs and protocol stack software for integration into Spreadtrum's dual mode chips. Under the licensing agreement, InterDigital provided complete UMTS 3GPP Release 6 modem technology and customer support.
We do not have a specific agreement relative to TD SCDMA with them. Recall that they are a licensee for the technology rather than the patent portfolio."
