Actually, this resonates with one of my "portfolio" management challenges.

Over the years, I have accumulated a long list of spinoffs, restricted shares, failed speculations etc. They are not worth selling, as the commission would be higher than the proceeds. Until such time as I need more tax losses, there is no reason to sell this "kennel" of cats and dogs. However, on the other hand, I do not want to waste time THINKING ABOUT THEM.

They get sorted to the bottom of the list, grouped as "consider these lotto tickets" and then put entirely out of mind. Once in a while, something arises from the mass-grave of this list and buys me a six-pack or even something better. I consider that to be "found money" and blow it accordingly. Interestingly enough, once one accumulates enough of these, you get to the point where any one of them doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell, but collectively it is likely than one of them is likely to go to be worth 10x the original "kennel".

If I could afford to buy all of them, I would not need to buy any of them and I sure wouldn't be spending time on the message boards!
