Neither one is going to be EOL'd anytime soon. If I were buying now, I'd go with the Socket754, but I am a cheapskate. My r30000z has an A64 3000+ Socket754 processor in it, and it does just fine. I have even loaded Rightmark CPU and have cut the voltages down(from 1.1V to 0.9V at 800MHz), and now the fans don't come on at all unless I stress it. And it games just fine, despite the GeForce ToGo 440 it runs things like the Doom3 demo, although the frame rate noticeably slows down under some circumstances.
