Somehow we need to do something to encourage more savings. I thankfully have a few years of expenses socked away in cash and liquid stocks (down from much more before the last two years cut the amount of cushion and 2 kids growing up added 50% to the costs), but I worry about not having enough if things go haywire. Most folks don't have the luxury of savings because they spend what they bring in, a position I am in too now unfortunately but with a cushion. I don't know if people consume too much (my family does, and I do on family but probably not on self other than books), or if jobs just don't pay enough. Taxes are way down for most people and will have to go up for all sooner or later. It is going to be tough. Good luck - and keep up the kindness.
