Yes, it is going to Suck big time. I was halfway joking a few weeks ago with the "Dark Ages of the Internet" posts that I put up on the PIMB, but the more that I read about Bush's appointments and supporters, their social philosophies and religious beliefs, the more that I realize that this is a holy war for them. And, being good followers and all, they are going to use the extreme powers that we have given to our government to destroy as many non-conformists and non-believers as possible while they have the power to do so. I have already cut back on my postings and will probably just stop before too long. These people take themselves way to seriously, and from past experience either do not have a sense of humor or the intelligence to differentiate between satire or sarcasm and more serious political writings. I do not want some government enforcer to come knocking on my door, because some big brother type took me too seriously.
Your observation that every right-wing fundamentalist whacko in the country with a little power trip, and the government force to back him up, has been given a kind of go ahead by the S-election of the Bush and Bush's appointment of Ashcroft is right on the money. They will take this as a sign from god that their religious war has begun. You have to remember that many of them actually believe that jesus is coming back in ten years or so, like Falwell has been saying, and so they want to get in good with god by destroying as many "Evil" people in the mean time as possible. I am being totally serious this time, as I know that the majority of my writings are taken accurately as sarcastic social commentary. I am getting very nervous at the implications of a renewed christian holy war being waged in America like they did in the 1980's.
The good thing about this situation is that when the violence and bloodshed perpetuated by the true believers in the name of god through the use of government force and renewed bigotries is finally recognized and stopped by the freedom lovers and free-thinkers, the power that the people will give to these institutions will be severely curtailed...I hope. In the mean time however, things are going to get much worse for minorities, the poor, women, civil libertarians, Libertarians, free-thinkers, homosexuals, hard drug addicts, potheads, free-lovers and sex industry workers(as pointed out in your example), atheists, deists, non-christians, vegetarians, enviromentalists, and non-conformists in general. And, it will also get worse for the christians as the backlash at the work of the fundamentalists grows.
Unfortunately, my predictions are usually correct and are derived from the information that I come across daily. The next four years are going to suck. I just hope that the Democrats will get back to being real Democrats and fight this new war against our Liberty, but judging by how much they have already sold out, I'm not holding my breath.
