I learned a long time ago about the competitive/agressive nature in male dominated environments. It's all throughout the business world, just a little more fearse in some arenas. For me it boils down to this... if a woman is competitive/aggressive in the same fasion as a man would be, then she's a bitch... and if she's not aggressive when a man would be in a similar situation, she's weak... it's very difficult to win that one. Women I have talked to who broke into my profession when there were no other women, experienced extreme prejudice. They were not only not mentored, they were sabotaged, ignored and generally treated very badly. Fortunately, it's not as bad as it use to be. A few years back, I had one boss who got so angry because I confronted him, he slugged the side of my desk in anger... oh well, his problem :)

And, yes, I've noticed some message boards work that way. Fortunately, not too many on iHub.
