Don't know about in Canada, but the police here will tell you two things if you use a gun on a burglar in your home: 1) make sure you kill him, not just wound him, so he can't sue you afterwards and 2) if the body falls outside the house, drag it inside.

Regarding #1, don't use all your ammo to kill the guy -- you never know, there may be two of them, and you don't want to have to reload.

PS One other thing I'd add, if you point a gun at someone you damned well better be ready in your mind to kill him because if you hesitate, he will likely take that gun away from you and kill you!
