Where to start on this finale.....
First off, if there was any doubt about the greatness of the season, I think it was all summed up by the greatest last episode I can remember. The jury questions were great, in my opinion. From Brett's coming out of the closet question to Mick to Jaison's making sure everyone knew that money had no issue in voting. As Jeff pointed out before he read the votes, on Survivor, the Jury is the world on voting. It seemed obvious to me that Erik spent his time well on the Ponderosa on convincing the women that playing the coattails is a justifiable strategy. His speech was probably as powerful as Atticus Finch's was in To Kill a Mockingbird. I think he convinced most on the jury that lying and manipulation was not what Survivor was about, but more importantly, it was about winning with dignity. He was of course, WRONG.
Personally, I don't care too much who wins as long as it's not Evil Dick from Big Brother. I root during the show, but once it's over, it doesn't affect my life in the least. What it did was make Russell the person to root for in the All Stars version (which I dislike, btw). So now Russell will have to come up with a whole new strategy to prove his worth. The fact that someone has two nine year old girls and his company, leaves them to go on a TV show, come back then immediately leave again is very telling anyway about him as a person.
So Russell got screwed because that particular jury thought he should. Perhaps he should have been a tad less cocky throughout. In the last episode, he treated the other three like they were pond scum. He acted as if they were just scenery there to congratulate him in the end. I can't believe Mick never went off on him, perhaps that was Russell's plan. Obviously he was pushing to see what they planned to say in their defense. BTW, based on Mick and Natalie's final speech, it was obvious the jury already had their minds made up. The speeches by all three of them were awful! How does Natalie not mention her efforts to get rid of Erik? How does Mick not offer up anything?
FWIW, I think there have been worse decisions in the past. I recall the Hispanic woman who won who did nothing but cook the whole show. I recall Amber totally riding Rob's coattails throughout then winning. I recall Tina beating Colby even though Colby went so far as to gift her into the finals. It goes on, but the point is, don't lose sleep over the results. These people all got their much wanted fame.....and Russell got $100k to go with it.

"Good night, Westley. Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning."
