Court rules in favor of CACI in Abu Ghraib torture case

CACI International Inc. won dismissal of lawsuits filed in 2004 accusing its employees of torture and abuse of prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison in Bagdad.

A U.S. appeals court in Washington overturned a lower court's decision, which ruled in 2007 the lawsuits should proceed.

"CACI did its work at Abu Ghraib prison with professionalism and integrity. We are proud of the work we did in very difficult and dangerous conditions, in a war zone," said Paul Cofoni, CEO of the Arlington-based company, in a statement. "We assisted the Army in obtaining useful intelligence information that helped save the lives of American troops on the battlefield."

No CACI personnel appeared in any of the notorious photographs at Abu Ghraib, and no one affiliated with the company has been charged with any wrongdoing, CACI said.
