Ron, I have the same concerns that you do, that AMD could just do this again in five years.
As part of the terms of the settlement, AMD and Intel will meet quarterly to discuss these issues. The hope is that despite the long history of animosity between the two companies, going forward they can resolve these differences like gentlemen.
Otellini just reiterated the notion that Intel needs a strong competitor to thrive. I guess he decided that there is no way in this global political climate that Intel could ever emerge as the only remaining x86 supplier on the planet.
Personally I would have preferred that Intel beat AMD up some more in the market as well as in the courts, but I guess the latter wasn't going to happen at all.
