Russian authorities say suspected Chechen rebels have attacked a village outside Grozny, wounding at least two people.
The interior ministry of the southern Russian republic says about 50 armed men raided the hamlet of Alleroi overnight Friday, burning houses and firing on a passing car.

An eight-year-old girl is reported to be among the wounded. One of the burned houses reportedly belonged to a police official, who was not home at the time of the attack.

Authorities say attackers were led by Akhmed Abdarkhanov, a man described as chief bodyguard to Chechen separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov.

Russia's Interfax news agency quoted government officials as saying two assailants were killed during the raid.

Local officials say the attack is the second in as many days on the village.

Russian forces have been battling Chechen insurgents for the past five years. Chechen rebels are blamed for the Beslan school siege and last month's bombing to two commercial airliners.
