What a treasure .. thank you -

......In the shadow of the old citadel in Herat, between the wood cutter's yard and the spice market, stood this covered reservoir commissioned in 1634 by a Safavid governor. The photograph was made from an entrance on the opposite side from the one visible in the picture. .........

This first chapter, the first thirty-two photographs, are the same images that were in the exhibition of dye transfer prints that has traveled to over one-hundred ten museums throughout the United States and Canada, and to venues in Europe and Asia. The exhibition list can be viewed here. In 1989 alone over a million people in North America attended exhibitions of this work at twenty-two different museums and galleries, including the largest museums in both the US and Canada, the Smithsonian Institution and the Royal Ontario Museum. There were no exhibitions of The Afghan Folio in the United States or Canada in 2006, and only one brief show in 2007. Since the show was generally advertised as an art exhibition, has the artistic taste of North Americans changed radically in recent years or were art museums politically motivated in accepting the show twenty years ago, when the Afghans were resisting a Russian occupation and not an American one?
