More on Greenspan: He annoyed a lot of traders and the Street with his "irrational exuberance" quote. But we all knew it; times were cuckooo and many of us knew they would end, badly. But a lotta money was being made and nobody wanted to stop the carnival. It wasn't Mr. Greenspan's fault. His 11 interest rate declines helped the economy. Consider the result of thw Nasdaq 80% decline coupled with a severe recesssion. He helped to prevent that. Deficits and excess spending and inflation can be laid at the doors of the Executive and Congressional branches, not the Fed. Thanks Mr. Greenspan; despite mistakes I think you served the nation well.
