The problem with presidential debates as I see it is they are not really debates. They are carefully scripted shows.

IMHO Kerry tends to be percieved as an elitist north-easterner when he speaks. That in an of itself is a turn off to many and something he needs to fix. Presidential debates are won on perceptions. The debators ability to logically counter an opponents stance with facts alone will not cut it.

This is a popularity contest. Kerry needs to get the swing votors to like him.
