a couple pretty major logic flaws with your post.
Unfortunately, what these fire fighters "really did not look much to" was Sotomayor's 19yr history on the bench, which even Repubs on the Judiciary Committee admitted shows a judge who rules according to the law.
If a judge's ruling is overturned by a higher court as the particular case you mentioned was, then the ruling the judge made was by definition not according to law, as the higher court ruled that is was not according to law, and overturned it.
And as to whether the firefighters looked into her history on the bench... why would they care? If someone hits you with a stick, do you really care that they never hit anyone else before? If they mess with your career or livelihood is it significant to you that she was once a respected hall monitor in high school? as F6 would say,,, no equivalency between her previous rulings and what the perspective of the firefighters was/is.
That said, i think that diversity is a good thing on the supreme court, and that Sonia is obviously bright enough to understand the messages that have been sent her way and will put them in her consideration pool. The hearings are always a partisan circle jerk anyway, and it appears the repubs were just putting up some limp-wristed token resistance to her nomination; it was never in doubt.
But i am still not sure what you were getting at by saying the firefighters didn't look into her history enough... they were not conducting the hearings, and their presence was just, presumably, to show one of her judgements to be counter to the GOP playbook, not to examine the whole body of her work.
