I agree that Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and whatever else does not replace more traditional means of marketing, but you can not discount social networking as a way of exposure and recognition.

I assume you have seen the past promotional events. There were good crowds there and Mark seems to be a popular guy. He will no doubt have many friends on Facebook, all of which will see Skins even if they don't have any intrest in buying any or were looking for it. That, will in effect, expose Skins to them and their friends and so on and so forth. Hence the term "social networking".

I have no expectations that a Facebook page will generate business sustaining sales on its own, but it is a cost effective (free) form of helping promote their business. This doesn't replace magazines and TV ads, but I would rather see them create Facebook pages than not. Bottom line is, it can't hurt.
