Linchuck, with the lack of Pitching out there guys are going to get contracts like Pavano plain and simple. But taking a chance on a guy with an incentive based contract, and handing a guy a 4 year deal are too different thing.

What I am talking about is signing a guy off a big year to multi year contract. Look at Pavano's year the Yankees signed him off of, did he have a year anywhere near his 2004 season. Nope. So those types of signings I think are very very risky. Does that mean signings Like that can't work out, or signing where a guy has been consistent simply falls off a cliff when you sign him. Those are both possible. But It all a probabilities game when it comes to signing free agents, and I think too many Get fooled by the big year on a contract year, but that is simply just my opinion.
