While it's positive that we have bipartisan support, to try to build a program out of our existing system is an reciept for disaster.
Any business, big or small has to have a business plan to be successful and that plan takes you from here to there in XX years. Only our politians would think that our current medical system could absorb 45,000,000 new patients next week!!
We need more doctors, facilities, etc well in advance, but those people cannot be educated the way our current doctors are. Maybe the government itself has to take the education out of the hands of our current universities.
I have a niece who's one year out of residency in pathology. She has education bills that could support a small mexican village but now she's in an private group and her first full year salary will exceed $300k. She can't afford her school bills and we can't afford to pay her $300k.
Our complete system is not affordable.
