During times of uncertainty and fear, it's only human nature to trust the one thing that has proven trustworthy throughout time. Since man first began to trade - no reasonably minded person would refuse to trade something of value for a nugget of gold - for that person realizes that they can in turn trade the nugget of gold for something of value. Gold is simply an eternal storage piece of value and will hold value so long as man exist.

In these current times, whosoever comes up with a currency backed by gold - will then be the only entity that can truly say that their currency will forever hold value. Such currency then stands the greatest chance of overwhelming all others.
