TFG, I haven't posted here in a while, but that doesn't mean I haven't been using xdev. In fact, I was just checking out some old set ups just to make sure they made it through the latest update. I was happily reminded of one in particular, DROOY, that I would include in your prospective list.
One of the particular ways that I use xd - and I'm not suggesting that this should be in the xd manual (but should be discussed at length) - is to look at stocks over a fairly long time frame (6 months +). What I look for are stocks that generate significant returns over a very long period of time with steady or slightly tuned settings.
DROOY is a good example of this. My original setup dates back to about a year ago with a starting point of March of last year. Upon opening today, it had a gain of 142% vs 12% b&h. With fine tuning it was simple to get it up to 187%. The basic buy and sell points falling in the same general area.
I am drawn to these types of plays because of their long term consistency in producing reliable buy and sell signals. Ironically, I use these types for full vest, all or nothing positions. I get a high level of confidence from the buy signal, enter a position, and target an exit price that is usually a bit under the next sell signal.
The ironic part being, of course, that I would be much better off if I would just follow the text book signals on this over the long term.
Interestingly, DROOY is coming off a sell signal. I am expecting a reasonably straight forward drop to the next buy signal, as I am also expecting XAU to fall short term to the low to mid-80's (mid to lower 20, 2 BB). It's a nice confirmation of my overall gold opinion, and I've never had luck getting XAU to xdev very well.
Bottom line, jump on DROOY on or near the next buy signal.
